The S-model is one of the original Ibanez designs with a very thin and extremly shaped body.
"Ibanez" was founded in 1909 by Matsujiro Hoshino in Nagoya, Japan. After selling imported instruments they started the production of guitars in 1932. The factory was destroyed during World War II, but production started again in 1950. In 1960 the founders grandson Junpei Hoshino became president and opened a new factory (Tama Industries) with brandnames like Ibanez, Tama, Goldentone.
During the 70s the "Ibanez"-brand was mainly used for copies of the famous american guitars. After being forced to first stop using Fender and Gibson headstock designs, "Ibanez" started with their own designs in the late 70s. In 1978 they stopped copying and presented a wide range of own designs, continuing in the following years with several new classic guitar designs (like the Artist, the RG, the S-series, the Iceman, the JEM and many more) and with increasing popularity. Now "Ibanez" is one of the big brands in guitar history. Top-of-the-line guitars are produced in Japan, the more lower priced models in Korea.
